Young Swimmers earn their Awards

Crusaders Swimming Cub caters for swimmers of all abilities including a very successful and popular Learn to Swim section.

Parents can chose from three sessions, all of which take place at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in the variable (small) pool on either Saturdays or Sundays. Coached by qualified teachers, the young swimmers follow a structured programme based on the International Swimming & Water Safety Standards. There are two levels, Octopus and Goldfish, with three awards within each level. When swimmers achieve Goldfish level 3, they have confidence in the water, can tread water for 15 seconds, swim 15 metres, perform a handstand and float for 5 seconds on their front and back. Once they are confident and can swim at least 25 metres, they take the next big step to the Main Pool at Tiddenfoot where they swim widths.

Junior Coach Barry Kent said “Swimming is an essential skill to keep children safe and the Learn To Swim sessions we run at weekends are always very popular. All the swimmers who have achieved awards this term have done really well. We take swimmers who are aged five or over but we also keep a waiting list for rising fives. I would like to thank three of our experienced swimmers, Lucy McMahon, Elizabeth Ranson and Hayley Crocker and also Shelley and Katherine Marriott who help every week and give great encouragement to our non swimmers.
